The Deutsche Theater has been the home of top-class entertainment in the heart of Munich for the past 120+ years: the stage hosts the most successful musicals from Broadway in New York and London’s West End.
With around 1500 seats and over 300 performances, the Deutsche Theater is Munich’s largest theatre after the Nationaltheater (Opera House). Ever since it hosted the European premiere of West Side Story back in 1961, it has given visitors the chance to see some of the world’s most successful musicals. In addition to that, the venue also provides the setting for some sensational new productions.
Its programme also includes modern dance, operetta and other shows of the highest calibre. To top things off, the theatre also hosts guest productions as part of its “Zugabe!” (“Encore!”) series, which ranges from various musical genres to comedy and cabaret.
As well as guest productions and events in the main building, artists also take to the stage in the historic Silbersaal (Silver Hall): Here, the programme ranges from readings to musicals, all of which are a truly special experience for the audience, thanks to the intimate surroundings of this ornate venue.
Throughout the year, the Deutsche Theater also transforms into Munich’s biggest ballroom, providing the setting for glamorous galas, balls and masquerade parties. Since the Silvesterball of 1896, the Deutsche Theater has been at the heart of the Fasching carnival celebrations in Munich and has also seen stars like Romy Schneider make their début in society at one of the venue’s elegant balls.
